Vegita
Vegita is an alien from the planet Vegita. He is the last Prince of the Saiya-jin race. He and Son Goku are the last full blooded members of of their race.
When Vegita first comes to Earth, accompanied by his assistant and fellow Saiya-jin Nappa, it is his intent to destroy the planet. During the fight with Earth's defenders, Nappa is defeated and subsequently killed by Vegita since Vegita despised weakness. Despite being several times more powerful than anyone on Earth, even Goku, Vegita is eventually chased off. But only after causing massive death and destruction.
Vegita eventually meets up with Goku and his friends again, while on planet Namek. Having been through a series of pummeling some nasty goons and being pummeled, Vegita was much more powerful than before and believed himself to the the legendary Super Saiya-jin. Unfortunately, it turned out that he was not.
While Goku remained on planet Namek to battle Freezer, the one that had destroyed the Saiya-jin and the Saiya-jin homeworld, a battered Vegita returned to Earth with the rest of the Dragonball team and all of the surviving Nameks-seijin.
Having returned to Earth, Vegita grudgingly agreed not to destroy the planet and moved in with Buruma. Because of certain circumstances he eventually marries her.
Incensed that Goku, a low-born warrior, should be better than he, the Prince, Vegita trained long and hard and eventually achieved the Super Saiya-jin state. In time, and through the intervention of Babidi, Vegita also achieves Super Saiya-jin 2, the second level Super Saiya-jin state.
Because of Vegita's pride, he is always in a constant, one-sided, rivalry with Goku. One-sided because Goku doesn't care, he just loves to train and fight.
Although Vegita appears to be eternally angst, he mellows out as time goes by. It appears that he seems to have accepted the fact that he will never be the greatest warrior.
